Autumn Gardens
A new collection of artworks
I am excited to share a new collection of work I have just finished making in the studio and tell you a little about the inspiration and process behind them. Autumn in the UK this year has been beautiful and I have enjoyed spending lots of time outdoors drawing and taking photos. I should add that while I write this its currently pouring rain after two very soggy and dark days, I had to dig out my hat and warm waterproof jacket earlier for the first time this autumn.
A few of the collages in this body of work are inspired by the Hepworth, Wakefield garden. I love the garden as the greens of the plants and trees starts to turn into all the softer autumn colours. The seed heads and stems left, remain like small sculptures growing around the collection of sculptural works in the garden. The building is often described as being Yorkshire sky grey and the contrast with the earthy ochres and mustard shades are a joy I wanted to try and capture.
I created the textures through a variety of printmaking processes on a selection different colours and types of paper. Spending time in my studio making these is always one of my favourite activities and I am going to be demonstrating some of these techniques as part of my paid subscription if you fancy learning too.
Assembling these and working out the compositions and colour combinations is like a jigsaw, I made some smaller simpler ones and a few more detailed artworks as I went along. I enjoy working on a few pieces at a time and not pushing anything to be finished too quickly so I can jump from one piece to the next and try to keep them feeling lively.
I have spent this afternoon adding these for sale to my website while staying cosy inside and watching the rain. You can find them HERE
I hope you are having a lovely weekend too.

These are wonderful.
Gorgeous work! I'm heading to the Hepworth this weekend and will keep this collage in mind as I walk round the garden ✨
