Making Impressions
Nature on Paper
Making Impressions is a new project I have been working away on behind the scenes for the last few weeks, I am really excited to share it and hope it will resonate with the right people who can come and join me. As the name suggests it’s a nod to so many of the techniques and processes I love - printmaking, mark making, paper, layering and texture.
Nature on Paper
I am starting simple (mainly because i am new to this online subscription world!) The first project called Nature on paper will run through November, December and January and is all about the process of observing, drawing and creating prints and printed ephemera inspired by Nature.
Each month we will start off exploring a theme with drawing, it could be drawing natural objects in sketchbooks or ideas for observations and noticing outdoors, I will also add lots of inspiration alongside this too, photographs, books, artists and there are a few nice exhibitions on currently that I want to share. Drawing for me is playful, it’s curious, it’s fun and often wobbly!
Later each month there will be a further video and post looking at how we can extend our drawings with different printmaking processes - I am super aware that most people don’t have any printmaking equipment and the activities here will not use expensive materials and can easily take place at the kitchen table! I often run workshops with adults, families and school groups so although these projects are for you to enjoy, they can easily be adapted and tweaked if you fancy sharing them with children or teenagers.
Through the next three months we will make paper collages, festive decorations and a lovely collection of printed papers and sketchbook drawings. I hope this can be a really creative project to take us through autumn and winter as we watch the season change. For me the perfect day involves being curious and noticing, the joy of drawing and then adding processes that let me explore colour combinations, layering, texture and pattern so I hope that’s what i can share here with you.
If you have any questions let me know and by November the 1st I will have worked out how to turn on the paid subscription button! As a little side note, I also intend to continue sharing creative studio notes for free as i do now.

Sounds exciting Rach x
I love your presence to the work… looking forward to more!
