Studio Notes
October
I cant quite believe how far into October we are already, I keep eyeing up the pumpkins in the shops and i did buy myself some little beautifully patterned gourds this week, I couldn’t really help myself, I will need to make sure I draw them soon.
Next week is half term here and also Arthurs birthday, he turns 4 and is busy organising himself a bat and spider themed family party. We have made a lot of paper bats so far!
I have a couple of paintings in an exhibition opening next week called Nature on Paper at SPOT in Glasgow. Looks to be some really lovely work in it and worth checking out. You can find out where they are HERE
I have also been adding more paintings to my website this week, its a task I am forever forgetting to do but slowly I am photographing them to pop up.
I have been endlessly photographing all the Autumn colours still, my hope is to start a paid subscription on here hopefully next month so i have been out gathering some inspiration and ideas. I took quite a few photos this week in The Hepworth garden as I was there running some family workshops. We were looking at repeat patterns and making printed pots. I wrote a post on how to make these in the summer and you can find it in my previous posts.
We also went on a walk to Nostell priory which is a National trust property and gardens near us, there was so much to enjoy with the trees leaves changing colours and a blanket of leaves on the ground.
In my last studio notes I wrote about trying to turn a collection of little square images I made into collages so I have been working on drawing out some compositions and making textured paper for them in my studio - as usual i have paper drying everywhere!
Last year I ran a project called You Choose with The Hepworth, it was one of the most lovely and inspiring projects I have worked on in many years of working in galleries. I was really pleased this week to hear that its been shortlisted for the Best Family arts Activity at the 2025 Fantastic for Families awards. You can read about the project here - Fantastic for Families
And a few other images from this week
This little one flew into my window and spent some time sitting on the step recovering before flying off.
