I love your creative flow and freedom with these natural objects. I also stuff my pockets with leaves and conkers etc while walking my dog… thanks for the inspiration to do something with them!
Thats brill, im so pleased it has inspired you. yes i think sometimes going back to the basics of just observing is helpful when your stuck in any way - i feel like i often forget that too!
The ‘small new paintings on top of other’ are wonderful. They are also ready to be large!!! I hope you will consider finding your way to a larger scale if you have not already.
Yes, don’t give up! You have the proportions and values right on target on the small ones. As trite as it may seem to do, consider a grid to help translate the composition, then jump back to your natural instincts. The scaling of it is often the obstacle. Second comes the translation of the DLM balance—Dark/Light/Medium. Blocking that second will give you your map. An under painting in one tone, almost like doing a pre-charcoal of it, will get you that. In fact, doing a charcoal of it at its original size will help you to really see what needs to happen in the big one. The relationship between your 100% saturated values and light is probably what is not translating. Go for it!

You've really inspired me. I'm at a turning point in my own work and trying to find my way back to more observational work. I think. Thank you!

I agree about September, it is such a transition period rich with the remnants of summer and the anticipation of Autumn. Lovely post.
Thank you, i hope you are having a lovely start to autumn - i keep seeing lovely inky drawings on your substack! Thanks for reposting too.
Awesome! Would love to do an interview for our magazine!
Thanks, yes that sounds great!

Thank you, thats so encouraging. i would also never have considered a grid - that a really interesting approach!
Oh, am glad! Some might bawk at it, but I guarantee you it’s what some of the masters did. Nothing ‘cheating’ about it.
I love your work - this is a great account
Thank you!
A lovely rich post ~ Thank You!
I love your cone drawings, + the current colour choices.
I'll revisit to savour all this before long.
