Sunday studio ramblings
Thunderstorms and dead blackbirds
I could call this studio rumblings, i love the expectation of a thunderstorm, the excitement in the air caused by, well excitement in the air. I am writing on Saturday afternoon so by the time i finish, it may be less humid, but just now the studio is muggy and it’s pouring rain outside.
We always have blackbirds nest in our garden, they nest in jasmine that grows up under our bedroom window, this is the second nest this year and I’ve listened to the hungry cheeps for a few weeks and watched the male and female swoop in and out. This week i found a little one that had died falling out the nest and I’ve thought about it all week, sad little thing. This morning I was pleased to see another larger baby one hoping around the garden being fed and encouraged by the mother with worms and songs. I’ve added a few nests and blackbirds to my work this week as I’ve thought about it.
I’ve been trying to wear shorts this week, it’s weird how unfamiliar I am with my knees
This week i grew a strawberry, my kids are currently squabbling over who can eat it. Not sure we’re quite self sufficient yet!
I have a little pile of paintings lying on my desk, they only have a tiny bit to finish them but I keep putting it off, I always find that bit tricky, adding the last marks to call them complete but also not adding too much so they are overdone.
The woman along our road keeps spraying water over her fence at fighting cats and it’s made me laugh all week, I can never see her, just a spray bottle appears over the fence in the back lane.
Sometimes the palette is nicer than the painting.
I finished dept Q last night, best thing I’ve watched for ages while
We’re trying to decorate this room in our house and have been sanding cupboards for weeks, I have no idea if it feels like we’re getting anywhere or not. I’ve chosen a rug I like but I feel like it’s a while away before I can buy it. You can tell by the fact I haven’t taken the picture down that I like to just start chaotic projects randomly and not in an organised fashion!
I’ve been looking at recent work I’ve made together today to try and see where I am going and what they have in common. As always there is colour and texture and layers, i often forget about composition so I have been trying to work on ways to make sure it’s being considered.
I hope you have had a lovely week and have a good day ahead
